DSI was founded as Design and Software International Inc.

As the name suggests, Design and Software was born as a service provider that offered contract design services along with the ability to sell and support software.

DSI was born in a Machine Shop as a journeyman (and second-generation) pattern maker. Jim Caliguri was a thought leader adopting CAM software in the late 1980s. Being an early technology adopter, he soon branched out to focus on CAD/CAM software, as it was clear this was the future of manufacturing technology.
